NICHOLAS JAMES SAFETY SOLUTIONS ASKS……. WHAT ARE THE BENFITS OF AN EXTERNAL SCAFFOLDING INSPECTOR!
Does your company use an internal or external scaffolding inspector. Have you ever stopped to wonder if an internal scaffolding inspector has been true and honest on their findings, are their findings being swayed by their organisations senior management.
Here at Nicholas James Safety Solutions we have been asking many blue chip construction companies, who appoint scaffolding organisations, if they are reassured that the person who erected the scaffolding structure has also been tasked with inspecting the same structure every 7 days, and the answers we received were not surprising.
Almost all of the respectable blue chip construction companies we asked would expect to see an external scaffolding inspector who has no relationship with the erecting scaffolding organisation to inspect the scaffolding structures on there projects.
It can be viewed by the HSE as a conflict of interest, and may have detrimental consequences if there were any civil litigation in the court of law.
External scaffolding inspectors will identify scaffolding related defects no matter how small i.e. toe board missing or check fittings missing. however, internal inspectors may choose to ignore these items as it would cost their company a mans wages to arrive back on site to rectify these items.
